I'm just sayin'

For a few nights now I have watched the local and network news report on protests. Granted- one protest was on church (temple) grounds, however, that temple is smack in the middle of Santa Monica. The first protest was from east Hollywood to west Hollywood along Santa Monica Blvd. Then tonight, another protest in Long Beach and also in Salt Lake City. Just FYI for anyone not in California, Santa Monica is about three feet from Hollywood and frankly, no one in Hollywood is anti-gay. Long Beach also is very gay friendly.

As far as protesting at churches, um, the people who go to churches and voted for prop 8 more than likely did so because they respect and or fear God, your placards and chanting won't make a dent. You'll just prove their point about your being an group with an agenda, vulgar slogans and epitaphs, or wanting to get rid of religion altogether, which is what your ads said you didn't want to do. Go figure.

I'm not a rocket scientist; however I think you folks are preaching to the choir as it were. I mean really. When you look at the demographics for which counties voted for and which counties voted against prop 8 - you folks are protesting in your supporters neighborhoods. Even Salt Lake is known to have more GLBT lifestyle than most anywhere else in the state. Seems to me, if you wanted to bug someone or change their mind you'd protest in the central valley or at least where you weren't wasting your time.

Thank you for that. This all makes me so sad. I agree with you.

Thank you so much for that post. I find it to be so aggravating because it seems okay for them to be able to express their views but not for us to do the same but in a more peaceful way (by just voting).

The other thing is that why the mormons? We make up such a small percentage of the population in California. I mean, why not the Protestants or the Catholics? Anywho...as you said, preaching to the choir.

And is it really going to get them anywhere?

Ugg.

Totally agree.

Seriously, Salt Lake City? Oddly enough I did not even see it on Utah's ballot.

I had another friend post about this... My husband brought up a good point...

Wasn't there a time when the men of Sodom and Gamorrah gathered in protest, to beat on Lot's door? They were trying to further their "alternative lifestyle" as well.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I understand protests, really I do, however it just seems silly to protest in front of your own front yard.

Ceri, the phrase, "if they had two brain cells..." come to mind.

#1, Not like I want them to include all of the other organizations and churches involved with the yes vote, but oy! They presume the church gave money, instead of the members. Big whoop. Swing a cat and find a church that preaches the bible!

Lisa, that made me chuckle.

And Kathy, um, yeah, all over that comment!

Way to do your part for the other side! Now you can say I didn't vote against it but I did try to help!

Amen. That is all I have to say.

Thank you Senator Obama for getting out the black vote. Minorities supported 8 overwelmingly. Now about that uniting the country.... Not so much.

Brianna, I need to come see you guys! I miss the girls, and well you two big people too!

Willis, now c'mon... it could happen.

PS...I wonder if they are aware that not only members of the mormon church donated to the "yes" side, but also to the "no" side. For example...Steve Young's wife donated $50k to support the "No" side of Prop. 8. Considering the financial state of most members I would think this donation seems a bit more than most could have come up with for the "yes" side.

I just hate when people do things in ignorance...like picketing people who may have actually tried to help their cause.

#1, what? You didn't donate 50k? ; )

It's infuriating. Does this give us the right to riot if the vote is overturned? I wouldn't even if it did.

Robyn, Thor heard today in ward counsel that there are "scheduled protests for all California Temples; Redlands' is this coming Tuesday." Amazing.

I really feel like fighting back against these people. After seeing them attack good and decent temple-goers, they have only strengthened my resolve against their cause. They better back off, or their attmepts at force-feeding me with their filthy agenda may result in the aweful garbage being vommited back in their faces. Sorry if that was too graphic.

P.S. I love your blog!

Thank you Paul. I am not sure retaliation is a good representation of the church, however I *do* feel we need to stand firm. Those who "strongly" opposed the protesters at LA have been discouraged from further intervention...kind of the just let them hang themselves theory/attitude Christ took with His accusers. So that's where I will go. Any who, in the end "By their works ye shall know them" will come into play for all of us.
