The kids came up this weekend, we had a family get together to send off to cousins on their respective missions (one to South Chicago, Spanish; the other to Austria/Germany).
While they were here we put in the final plans for a vacation later this month. We reserved our place months ago and now we get to figure out exactly how we want to do nothing with our time there.
Convict Lake, Twin Lakes, June Lake (and the infamous "loop of Liberals!") A mandatory trip out to Bodie with the one (of four...wah) grandkids who will be able to attend. A trip to the tufas on Mono Lake, and also a picnic in Bridgeport, which I think is one of the prettiest little towns. I once thought it would be great to just drop everything and move there; until I heard they are literally snowed in during the winter months. This is also where the Marines, et al, decided to train for battle in snow. I am not a snow person.
The trip is planned to include as much fishing as possible. See that guy in the photo? (I know where he lives and where he hides!) When I see him this year I will be sporting my camera, but also my new pink fishing rod! Watch out, here I come!

OH! Those pictures are beautiful! Have a wonderful time!
I love the shot of the lanterns, rusted out cans and 800 yr old shoe, it's perfect.
Thanks Rynell! It's kind of hard to not take a great shot in these locations, after a while your eyes almost hurt with the prettiness of it all!
Alison, Thanks, that blue is great. Have you ever been to Bodie? It's amazing. Depending on your angle you can get a vintage, pioneer, old west, or even scary spookie photo. Lots of opportunity for landscape and vegetation also.
Oh my that looks wonderful! I'm gonna have to look up Bodie!
Susan, if you took photos out in Bodie my head would explode! You have to do it! Plan a long weekend, cuz girl, it's out there! (a day just to get there from socal) But you get to see some awesome scenery all along the way.
We went to Bodie once when we were kids. It was an awesome place. The lady we went with had all of these crazy stories to tell about how you should never take anything from Bodie because it would bring bad luck and would try to get back there. Funny now I am sure she was trying to encourage us not to steal, but I was pretty freaked anyway! I didn't want to touch anything.
I have wanted to go to Bodie for the longest time!!! Maybe we will, soon. It's only 3ish hours to Tahoe from here so Bodie has to be closer! Or at least, about the same, depending on which Hwy...
Have fun!!!
Kristy, that's a pretty funny story! It can get really creepy to me in places, like the funeral parlor is waaaaay creepy.
SalGal, if you get a chance I say go! Just bring plenty to drink, eat or whatever, there isn't much there beyond a restroom and drinking fountain.
