this guy! Oh my heck! Thor and I were people watching in New Orleans Square at Disneyland when we noticed a line beginning to form. This is Jack Sparrow. He had all the nuances, gestures and even a pretty fair voice representation that mimicked Johnny Depp's Captain Jack to a tee. He had a terrific time playing the role.
One couple came up for their photo op dressed similarly in dark denim jeans and matching brown shirts, each wearing Mickey Mouse ears. "Jack" took one staggered look and said dryly, "Oh cute. You're both dressed alike." and just as the camera was about to click, he tilted his head to the man and added,"Really bloke, you gotta stop wearing women's clothing!" The man's reaction was great as the crowd burst out laughing.
He had a comment to just about everyone who came up and all sounded as if they were part of the Pirate's movies.
Speaking of Pirates... We went through the ride and well...I am underwhelmed. I think perhaps it is a case of too high of expectations. I didn't notice that much difference in the old and the new and then I am a picky poo about the way Disney has slacked on renovations. Example: Before the renovation, the opening to the Pirate's ride had a ceiling that was literally falling apart, paint chipping, pipes exposed from years of neglect. Now with the new 'improved' ride, you can still see the paint chipping underneath a bunch of tree branches and vines they stuck on the ceiling. How does that renovate?
As far as the ride portion, well they took out most of the "Yo Ho, Pirates'Life" singing. In its' place you get a monotone "Dead men tell no tales...dead men tell no tales..." that repeats itself on and on and on and on and freakin' on. I miss the jolly singing. I am old, I like the singing.
There are three places where "Jack Sparrow" are featured, one is particularly good, but all are nice. There is place in the ride that is very dark where they placed a cool special effect water fall with an image of a pirate talking etc. that you go through. The little kids on the ride with us thought they were going to get wet...so that is totally fun. And then in the big battle between the ship and the village they have Capt. Barbosa on the ship. But they have taken out some of the other places where there used to be action going on. (insert sad face here)
And I miss the singing. "We're blighters and beggars and ne'er do well cads! Drink up Me Hearties Yo Ho! But of how we're loved by our mummies and dads! Drink up me hearties Yo HO!"
So there's the Disney Report for this week (winking at Chronicler). Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirate's Life for S'mee!

I hope we get to see him when we go. Speaking of which, I think you should come too. Oct. 28th and 29th. It would be so much fun!! And you could see everyone, even Cris's new baby will be there.
I have never experienced Disney Land or World or any of those. One of these days.....
Pea, I would love to join you guys but unfortunately those two days are already booked with Thor, 28th is his work's 100th anniversary celebration and then there's Sunday. grrrr. But I'll see you guys on the 9th, 17th on or about those days in your neck of the woods!
Maren, maybe when you come to O'side you can make a day for disneyland???
I can't believe this guy isn't Mr. Depp. Incredible! Lucky dog.
Maybe we could. Reilly will be 5. It would be so fun to see him at Disney (although he hasn't really seen any Disney movies yet because he gets scared so easily and makes us turn them off--Disney bad guys ARE scary). My sister served her mission in Anaheim and my brother in Ventura. Can't believe I have never made it to California.
Chronicler...yup, I agree, this guy is all over JD, yum!
Maren,Ventura County is beautiful, and Anahiem? well you can grow anything there (including billions if you're into mice). Reilly isn't alone. I sheltered my kids from a TON of movies when they were little, I wanted them to stay little as long as possible. There is so many choices for little ones at Disney and CA Adventure(more like a big county fair if you ask me) that you'd be hoppin' to catch it all. Toon Town makes me nuts, but it is fabulous for toddlers and little kids. Little Man loves the "Winnie the Pooh" ride in Frontier Land, and of course all of the rides they have in Fantacy Land- (Dumbo, Peter Pan, Tea Cups.) although last time in Snow White he stiffened up a bit at the witch. There's Autopia and Buzz Lightyear (AWESOME!)in Tomorrow Land.
Bring your camera and lots of film! And your own water and snacks. eeeee too much fun!
That sounds like a lot of fun. I am always the one to take a bazillion pictures. I am the family's unofficial historian. I document everything with pictures and video.
How far is Oceanside from the San Diego Temple, I wonder. THAT is someplace that I have wanted to go ever since I saw it.
Maren, it depends on the time of day...welcome to California! If you can drive 65mph about 1/2hour, chances are more like an hour to 1 1/2 hours. The temple there is beautiful, however it is smack in the middle of HEAVY traffic. The freeway can be 5mph. It is a walk up temple so you do not need a reservation, that's a plus!
Seeing the San Diego temple has been one of my dreams ever since I first saw pictures. That put San Diego on the map for me as a place I intend to visit someday. It is a 2 hour drive for us to get to the D.C. Temple, so that is what we are used to.
Have I been missing out on this conversation or WHAT
That so does look like Mr. Johnny.
Goodness, S'mee you should write a letter, heaven ONLY knows they have the money to renevate.
Do you know I have never taken my kids to Disneyland, either. Sad, that.
The San Diego Temple is really neat.
(Manti, will ALWAYS be my favorite)
Maren, if you are used to driving then the temple is now on the trip agenda!
Lisa, aarrrrrgh! ; >
We should rectify all past parental woes!
And My#2 and his little bride were married in Manti...I wanted to be, but hey, you read the previous post, lol, I was glad ot get married ANYWHERE!LOL
My parents were married in Manti. I have never been to that one either.
Well, when you decide to renew your vows..
*smirking*
We'll meet under the willow tree at Manti and I'll bring lunch!
*GRIN*
That is awesome! It really makes me want to go to Disneyland! He looks so much like the real Captain Jack!
